The tranquil pursuit of a Birdwatching holiday is a popular activity in the Yorkshire Dales. Wensleydale has an excellent assortment of large and small birds. Curlews are very common along with the Lapwing, Oyster Catcher, Herons, Buzzards and flocks of Black-headed Gulls are frequently spotted.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park is the front of the campaign to stop further decline in the Black Grouse.
Cotter Force, in Cotterdale west of Hawes, is a secluded series of waterfalls in woodland on Cotterdale Beck, a tributary of the River Ure in Wensleydale. On a walk from our holiday cottages to the waterfalls, several bird species can be seen including dippers, grey wagtails, kingfishers and redstarts. Buzzards may also be seen flying overhead.
The tranquil pursuit of a birdwatching holiday is often incorporated into guided walking.
